💡How to Extend the Color Retention of Jewelry Components?

Gold-plated jewelry isn’t permanent and can fade based on wear habits. To extend the life of the plating, avoid wearing it while bathing or in prolonged contact with sweat. Sterling silver doesn't fade but can oxidize and turn black; use a silver polishing cloth to restore its shine, and store it sealed when not in use.

A popular tip is to apply a layer of clear nail polish to components to extend color retention. I tested this with lobster clasps, and the results showed significant improvement! The polish works best on larger pieces, though smaller ones can be tricky to coat without leaving visible marks. After seven days, the coated lobster clasp retained its color much better than the uncoated one. Be sure to apply polish quickly, and let it dry thoroughly, ideally overnight.
